While many of our Esselle Home rugs are crafted with incredibly stable backings (such as our premium latex and cotton blends), adding an underlay is a fantastic way to extend the lifespan of both your luxury rug and your flooring. An underlay provides a sumptuous, cushioned feel underfoot, prevents heavy furniture from denting your floors, and offers excellent grip on highly polished wood, luxury vinyl, or smooth tiles.

To maintain the exquisite finish of your rug, we recommend regular vacuuming using a suction-only attachment (avoiding the beater bar, especially on our hand-tufted or hand-woven styles). For accidental spills, immediately blot the area with a clean, dry white cloth - never rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibres. For a deep refresh, particularly for our premium 100% wool or natural jute collections, we advise consulting a professional rug cleaning service.

Yes, it is completely normal for rugs crafted from high-quality natural yarns, such as our 100% wool Esme and Aura collections, to experience some light shedding initially. This is a natural characteristic of premium fibres settling. Regular, gentle vacuuming will quickly reduce and eliminate the shedding over the first few weeks, leaving your rug looking flawless.

For a cohesive, professionally designed look, your living room rug should ideally be large enough for the front legs of your sofa and armchairs to rest comfortably upon it. For a standard UK 3-seater sofa, our 160 x 230cm or 200 x 290cm sizes are highly popular choices that beautifully anchor the space. Absolutely. Our runner collections, including the durable hand-woven jute of our Whitefield range and the robust sisal-blend of our Swinton runners, are perfectly suited for high-traffic entryways and hallways. If you plan to install a runner on a staircase, we recommend consulting with a professional carpet fitter to ensure the specific composition is safely secured and suitable for use with stair rods.

Many of our natural fibre and flatweave collections, such as the Whitefield and Prestbury, offer superb versatility. While they look stunning in conservatories, dining rooms, and kitchens, they are also suitable for use in sheltered outdoor spaces. However, to preserve the natural jute and sisal materials, they must be protected from dampness and should never be left exposed to wet conditions.
